If you only know Myrtle Beach from the promotion materials that Google and Facebook start making sure you see once you join the AARP, but long-term care insurance, or do something else that only old folks do, then your mental image is probably that Myrtle Beach is an idyllic Sun Belt town, full of winding residential streets where only golf carts, pedestrians, and the occasional alligator dare to tread. This is not the whole story, though. With Sun Belt charm comes Sun Belt chaos. If South Carolina is the next Florida as far as being a destination for retirement and for destination weddings, it is also getting a taste of the crazy traffic which is a consequence of Florida and other Sun Belt states being a popular attraction for you and old drivers alike. If you got injured in a tourist town in South Carolina, even if you live there year-round, contact a Columbia car accident lawyer.

Two Vehicles Collide Head On in Conway

Highway 90 in Horry County is notorious for its disproportionate share of crashes that result in fatalities or serious injuries. Several other major state highways have exits onto Highway 90, and the result is too many cars going fast and not enough traffic lights. On March 7, things turned deadly on Highway 90 in Conway. A 2002 Dodge pickup truck was driving in the westbound lanes, while a 2014 Toyota Camry was traveling east. Eventually, the Dodge crossed the center lines and drifted into the eastbound lanes, where it struck the Camry head on. Each of the vehicles involved in the accident had only one occupant, and both drivers were taken to Grand Strand hospital with severe injuries. The driver of the Dodge died of his injuries, but the driver of the Camry survived. The ABC 15 news website did not say what caused the driver of the Dodge to cross the center lines.

Four Vehicles Involved in Chain Reaction Collision on Highway 22 Near Myrtle Beach

In February 2026, four vehicles collided in a chain reaction accident on Highway 22 in the direction of Myrtle Beach. The collision caused authorities to close the Myrtle Beach-bound lanes of Highway 22 for several hours. One of the cars overturned, causing the driver to become entrapped until rescue crews were able to extricate him. Three people were injured seriously enough to require hospitalization, and one of them was in critical condition when the ABC 15 news website published its report on the accident shortly after it happened. The news report did not say what kinds of vehicles were involved in the accident and which vehicles were transporting the people who got injured, nor did it say what precipitated the accident.
