Colleton County Woman Suffers Burns in Space Heater Accident

One evening in December 2025, a woman in Colleton County was sitting in a chair in the living room of her mobile home. She had plugged a space heater into the wall to stay warm, and she had a blanket covering her body. The blanket caught fire from the heat of the space heater; news sources did not indicate whether the blanket was directly touching the space heater.

The woman ran to a neighbor’s house and called 911. Firefighters extinguished the fire, and paramedics treated the woman for burn injuries to her legs and then transported her to a hospital.

Space Heater Safety Tips

Space heaters cause fires and injuries each year, but most of these do not result in product liability claims. You can only prevail in a product liability claim if you can prove that the accident happened despite you using the product safely. In the case of space heater accidents, it could jeopardize your case if you let your clothing or bedding get too close to the space heater. Likewise, to reduce the risk of injury, you should plug the space heater directly into the wall instead of using an extension cord.
