Opossums are gross.  Cats give you the creeps, as you are a dog person.  Deer are a nuisance in your yard and on the road.  Despite your personal feelings about them, you would swerve or brake to avoid hitting any of these creatures if they crossed your path while you were driving, even if you are a proud meat eater and a skilled and enthusiastic hunter.  Why, then, would someone hit another human being with their car and just keep driving?  That is what Alyssa Williams wants to know.  The man who struck her twin brother while he was riding his moped in Greenville did not stop to render assistance, and now her brother faces a long and painful road to recovery.  In situations like these, the best person to help you recover compensation for your medical expenses and other financial losses is a South Carolina motorcycle accident lawyer.

Greenville Man Charged with Leaving the Scene of an Accident Involving Serious Bodily Injury

According to his family, Justin Williams, 27 is a gentle giant.  He is a loving father to his five-year-old son and infant daughter.  What happened to him in early October 2020 is devastating to his family, including his mother and his twin sister.  On a Wednesday night, Justin was riding his moped near the intersection of South Batesville Road and Devenger Road in Greenville.  Just before midnight, a Land Rover struck him and did not stop to call an ambulance for him.  By the time an ambulance picked him up and took him to the hospital, he was in critical condition.  He underwent two emergency surgeries in the days following the accident and three more in the subsequent weeks.  He faces years of recovery, and some of his injuries may be permanent.  According to his mother, if he had not been wearing a helmet at the time of the accident, there is little chance that he would have survived.

The following week, police arrested the man who was allegedly behind the wheel of the Land Rover when it struck Justin Williams.  Christopher Toates faces felony charges for leaving the scene of an accident involving serious bodily injury.  After his arrest, Toates was taken to the Greenville County Jail, where he posted bond on October 13.  After posting bond, he was released on the condition that he wear an electronic monitoring device.  If he is convicted at trial or pleads guilty, he could face up to ten years in prison.  Regardless of the outcome of Toates’ criminal case, Justin Williams and his family have the right to file a civil lawsuit in connection to the accident.
