Chain Reaction Collision Leads To Motorcyclist Being Run Over

Everyone who buys a motorcycle for the first time gets a flurry of warnings from concerned family members. Most of these share the theme that, no matter how carefully you drive, and even if you wear a helmet, there is no escape from the fact that a motorcycle is much smaller than a car, and if a car and a motorcycle collide, the laws of physics will kick in. An accident in October 2025 led to a motorcyclist being thrown from his motorcycle and another vehicle striking him. Multi-vehicle pileups like this are common, but when all of the vehicles involved in the accident are of approximately equal size, the ones that get hit later on in the chain reaction usually do not get as much damage, and their occupants tend to sustain less serious injuries than the first vehicle that was struck. This is especially true of a chain of rear-end collisions among cars stopped at a traffic light. Chain reaction collisions where traffic is traveling at high speed tend to be worse, though. If you have sustained serious injuries in a motorcycle accident that involved more than two vehicles, contact a Columbia motorcycle accident lawyer.
Driver Who Caused Multi-Vehicle Pileup Arrested for Drunk Driving
The accident happened at about 5:00 p.m. on a Sunday, which is typically a time when there is less traffic. Osvaldo Bravo Juarez was driving on Dorchester Road, and he was following the car in front of him too closely. Eventually, he struck the car ahead of him, which was waiting to make a left turn. The impact caused Juarez’s car to veer across the center line into the eastbound lane, colliding with a motorcycle. This caused the motorcycles to fall off of his motorcycle into the road. Another car in the eastbound lanes struck the motorcyclist as he lay in the road.
The motorcyclist survived but sustained serious injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. The Count On 2 news website did not release the name of the motorcyclist. None of the other vehicle occupants were injured in the accident.
Police arrested Juarez, 40, at the scene of the accident. He is accused of driving under the influence of alcohol, driving with an open container of an alcoholic beverage in the car, and following the driver ahead of him too closely. Even if his criminal case does not result in a conviction, the injured motorcyclist still has the right to seek compensation in a civil lawsuit arising from the accident. Plaintiffs in personal injury lawsuits arising from drunk driving accidents can prevail even if the defendant pleads no contest or is acquitted in criminal court or never formally receives charges.
