Sheriff’s Deputy Injured In Hit And Run Collision In Front Of School

DirectingTraffic

Accidental injuries expose everyone’s financial vulnerability.  If you are a full-time employee, you are in a better position than most.  Your employer-provided health insurance will reduce the cost of your medical expenses, although the portion you pay will still be considerable.  If your employer provides paid medical leave or short-term or long-term disability insurance, this can also help you avoid financial catastrophe.  Furthermore, if the accident happened while you were at work, then your employer’s workers’ compensation insurance must pay for your medical expenses and, if applicable, your disability benefits, but in practice, getting it to pay for these things is easier said than done.  If the accident was due to someone else’s negligence, you have the right to seek damages from the person who caused the accident or the party legally responsible for the place where the accident happened.  Car accidents are just one example of preventable accidents where injured people have the right to seek damages.  If you are gainfully employed, but a car accident put a dent in your financial stability, contact a Columbia car accident lawyer.

Former Reality TV Star Accused of Leaving Scene of Accident

In October 2023, a Berkeley County Sheriff’s deputy was directing traffic in front of an elementary school in Moncks Corner in his capacity as a School Resource Officer.  At around 7:00 in the morning, as parents and employees were approaching the school in order to begin the school day, a 2022 Ford SUV struck the deputy and left the scene.  News reports make it sound like the driver did not slow down or stop, perhaps indicating that the driver’s destination was not the school, or perhaps the driver was not even aware that the deputy was there until it was too late to stop.  Also, the Decider website did not state this directly, it implied that the deputy was on foot instead of directing traffic from inside a vehicle, making this a pedestrian accident.  The employee’s injuries were severe enough to require hospitalization, but he is expected to make a full recovery.

Witnesses noted the license plate number of the vehicle that caused the accident, and the South Carolina Highway Patrol later located the vehicle parked in front of the residence of Kathryn Dennis, a former cast member on the reality TV series Southern Charm.  The incident is still under investigation, and news sources have not reported whether authorities believe that Dennis was the one driving at the time of the hit and run accident.  In any case, Dennis has not yet faced criminal charges, even though leaving the scene of an accident involving injuries is a crime.
