Log Truck Accidents

Sharing the highway with commercial trucks is usually a nerve-wracking experience. If you try to pass a truck, it is difficult to judge the speed you need to travel so that you can pass it. When you gain speed and drive next to the truck, it feels like negative pressure is sucking your car closer to the truck; if you let yourself stop to think about it, this is probably how black holes function, but the thought is too scary. All you can remember is the sticker on the back of the truck that says, “If you can’t see my mirrors, I can’t see you,” and you keep your eyes fixed on the truck’s side view mirror, but you can’t truly relax until you are safely ahead of the truck, or at least until you make eye contact with the truck driver in his mirror. When you can see the contents of the truck, though, it fills you with wonder. So that is where the supermarket gets all its cantaloupe melons. So that is where all the Thanksgiving turkeys come from. If a truck spills its contents on the road, though, it is a disaster, often leading to multiple vehicles crashing, multiple people getting injured, and the road being closed for hours. Motorist Dies After Car Collides With Log Truck
In November 2025, a collision between a car and a log truck resulted in one fatality. The accident happened in the early afternoon on Highway 701 in Bucksport in Horry County. The two vehicles collided head on. News reports contained few details about the accident, which was still under investigation, but they gave the impression that the car was the one that was going in the wrong direction. The driver, Christian Todd Howard of the car was ejected from the vehicle. First responders pronounced him dead at the scene of the accident. Howard was 25 years old. The driver of the truck was not injured. Highway 701 near the scene of the accident remained closed for several hours after the collision.
The Legal Issues Surrounding Accidents Involving Commercial Trucks
If you get injured in a collision with a commercial truck, the logical place to file a claim is with the commercial liability insurance policy of the company that owns the truck. Pursuant to South Carolina’s laws of comparative negligence, you can still get compensation for some of your accident-related financial losses if you are partially at fault for the accident. Truck accidents are more likely to lead to lawsuits than accidents involving two cars, because the injuries in truck accidents are usually more severe, and truck companies have the money to pay damages, whereas most individual defendants do not.
