Injured Woman Sues After Teen Crashes Go-Kart

GoKart3

Kids will be kids, and that is why the state does not issue them driver’s licenses until they have demonstrated some wisdom and maturity. Before that happens there is a time in kids’ lives when they are tall enough to operate a vehicle, and they have the gross motor skills necessary for this. That is why go-karts are such a popular pastime for teens who are too young to get a driver’s license. Go-karts go just fast enough to be fun, but not enough that anyone would dare to drive them in traffic. When you drive them in their proper venue, they are a lot of fun with a relatively low risk of injury. Sometimes adults who have held driver’s licenses for years even get in on the action and enjoy being able to steer their vehicles more accurately than anyone else on the go-kart track. The Track has based its business model on this fact. It operates six recreational facilities throughout the southern United States, with go-karts as their star attraction. Go-kart tracks, like all recreational facilities, have a legal responsibility to prevent dangerous conditions on their property that will predispose customers to history. If you got injured in a collision on a designated go-kart track, contact a Columbia premises liability lawyer.

Customers Had Previously Warned Employees About Reckless Go-Kart Driver

On June 22, 2025, the longest day of the year, a boy in his early teens went to The Track in Myrtle Beach, and by all accounts, it seems like he got too carried away. He struck another go-kart head-on. The teen girl driving the struck go-kart was not seriously injured, but her mother, Bonnie Reeves, complained to The Track employees about the boy’s reckless and aggressive driving.

Her complaint apparently made little impression. The boy continued his rambunctious driving and eventually collided with a go-kart driven by Reeves herself. The impact caused Reeves’s knees to hit the go-kart’s steering wheel and her head to hit the go-kart’s headrest. Her injuries were severe enough that she had to take time off from work to recuperate. In October 2025, she filed a personal injury lawsuit against The Track, requesting compensation for her accident-related medical expenses and lost income.

The plaintiff is a resident of North Carolina, but because the accident happened in South Carolina, it is the courts of South Carolina that have jurisdiction over the case. According to the Myrtle Beach Online website, the only defendant named in the lawsuit is The Track. If the plaintiff chose to do so, she could also file a lawsuit against the parents of the boy who caused the accident, since parents are legally responsible for injuries caused by their minor children.
