Driver And Pedestrian Injured When Car Crashes Into Supermarket

Driver and Pedestrian Injured When Car Crashes Into Supermarket
In so many ways, South Carolina is becoming the new Florida. The Sunshine State used to be the most sought-after destination in the southeastern United States for beach vacations, and some visitors kept their promises that they would settle there in retirement. As Florida has become more crowded and more expensive, South Carolina is looking better and better. It is an increasingly popular destination for tourism and for retirement. For bachelorette parties that are plenty of fun while falling short of Florida levels of hedonism, there’s no place like South Carolina. Of course, with all the new senior-friendly housing that has recently sprung up, South Carolina is also giving Florida some competition when it comes to alligator attacks. Likewise, the older generations will tell you about the old days, when you used to have to go to Florida to visit a Publix supermarket. Now there are 70 Publix locations in South Carolina, but before 1993, you had to go out of state to get those one-of-a-kind Publix deli trays and those pink and green leaf cookies. In those days, Publix was one of the only places where you could get cash from an ATM, but now ATMs are ubiquitous at banks and supermarkets. Driver Hits Poles Outside Publix Store and Crashes Through Store Window
These days, Publix stores are a recognizable feature of several states in the southeastern United States. The stores have an instantly recognizable design, with concrete poles in front of the entrance to prevent shopping carts from going rogue, and with an ATM mounted on a wall facing the sidewalk in front of the store, usually covered by the awning of the shopping center. One morning in July 2025, an SUV crashed into the poles in front of the Publix supermarket on Two Notch Road in Columbia. The impact of the collision caused the car to crash into the glass window at the front of another part of the store, near the ATM.
The only people injured were the driver of the SUV, whom the WLTX News 19 website described as an elderly woman, and a pedestrian who was standing on the sidewalk near the collision. The car did not hit the pedestrian, but broken glass from the accident did. None of the injuries resulting from the accident were life-threatening. People in other stores in the shopping center heard the collision and came out of the stores to see what had happened and to take pictures. As of the time of publication of news reports, it was not clear what had caused the collision. The driver could have been speeding in the parking lot, or she could have lost control of the car for another reason.
